2.0 gear box

hey all, Very Happy what gear box do you think is in my mk2 prefacelift 2.0 ?? its a 79 2.0 L 4 speed, im thinkin about fitting a 5 speed if its a straight swap with no mods (RARE CAR NO THAT WONT BE GETTING CHOPPED AT ALL)

if anyone can help, it will be much appreciated Question

Its not a straight swap, the 5 speed is longer and the front of the propshaft is shorter. It is a straightforward job if you have the bits.

If you are talking type9 5 speed, it's got to be worth doing. Blew up countless 2L pintos in me LWB transit, till we fitted an MT75 (transit) 5 speed. The engine it went into lasted 7 years after that.

Yes I know, but it's also a pinto (the engine you just took out of the SWB minibus was from a Mk2 granny) so the principle must be the same, correct me if I am wrong.

No, the Transit type 9 is a different box as is the Transit MT75. The car versions dont have to put up with the stresses that the commercial ones do Smile

No I meant the principle of the 5 speed box (of whatever type) dropping the revs and lengthening the life of the engine.

Exactly. Drop the revs, and keep the engine a lot longer. Very Happy
