If you look at the side of the box (drivers side) at the back is the valve, it has a vacuum pipe coming from it which goes up to the inlet manifold. Take the pipe off and see if there is fluid inside. If there is then you need to change the valve. If not then you may find the clutch bands are slipping, they can be adjusted but may need replacing. There is a good 2.8 auto box on ebay at the moment.

Ill try olive oil first lol. Ok another question for you.
The 2 sheathed
cables going to the black metal throttle mechianism thingy .The fat one is accelerator cable but what is the wee thin one that goes down to the box? kickdown? if so mine is very slack and has ajustment left. Its that slack that it doesnt seem to be doing anything. Do you think this mightbe something to do with my 2nd and drive problem. Going uphill it jumps between 2nd drive and back to 2nd very very easy with just feathering the gas ped. Your help is very much appreciated as its difficult to explain this to spanish mechs Very Happy

Just thinking the kickdown maybe diconected on purpose?

Soz for delay in replying. The kick down cable should not engage at lower throttle openings, push the accelerator to the floor (engine off!) and see how far the kickdown cable moves. It should move its full travel at near max throttle. s long as there is free play in the cable it should not affect up/down shifting in normal use.
