Gearbox oil cooler
Hi all . I am new here and have a problem
I have a MK2 Ghia 2.8 auto . Problem is I have an oil leak from where the gearbox oil cooler pipe goes into the gland nut on the rad . The very end of the pipe has rusted through . To get moving I have cut both pipes and joined them together with a peice of rubber hose . The local garage say they can't get any fittings to fix it . Is it safe to join these pipes as I have done but with better piping . Will the box overheat ? I only use at speeds up to 70 mph and don't tow or go on long journeys in it now .
A gearbox specialist says it will ruin the gearbox if I use it that way and he would need to fit a seperate oil cooler . Do I believe him ??
The car is in beautiful condition with a great engine and trans etc but I don't want to spend needlessly
Any advice would be very welcome .
Cheers to all .
Great motors aren't they !!

Re: Gearbox oil cooler
Have you tried the banger boys? they convert all their cars to manual and don't even use the rad so you may be in luck there, failing that is there another way you could join the pipes to the rad rather than shorting them together?
Re: Gearbox oil cooler
You could fit a seperate oil cooler, with fittings and a length of hose. I find when my C3 box gets hot, it starts to change a little irratically
