hi guys ,

im in a bit of bother with an overheating classic at the moment ,

i gave her a full block and rad flush about a month ago and fitted a new water pump and thermostat and now the bugger is running wild hot , dangerously close to the red so i whipped out the radiator and tried to flush it out again but to no avail ,

Ive made enquieries about getting it re-cored but because it is plastic top and bottom im running into a dead end with it ,

anyone out there know the whereabouts of one ??

its for a mk2 Granada 2.8i ghia x and the tricky bit is that she is automatic , the oil from the auto box runs through the radiator too , acts as an oil cooler !!

any help on this would be greatly appreciated lads thanks ,

you can pm me or phone me anytime on 087 7437783 . thumbsup.gif

regards terry

Does the rad have a cap or is it filled through the header tank? later models have no cap and have to be filled via the header tank causing air locks, try drilling a few small holes in the thermostat it will make it run cooler, temp guage should be about 3rd of the way across the scale

hi mate , thanks for the reply ,

mine is the later model with no cap , i have to say though before i started messing about flushing the system she never gave me a bit of bother at all , the needle always sat half way on the gauge regardless of conditions etc , but since i started fiddling its shot way up but she never boiled over and ive changed out all the parts that i thought may be the problem so now its down to the blasted rad im afraid ,

i might try your suggestion with the thermostat and see it if makes any difference ,

i did run her for a couple of days without the thermostat but she ran pure cold whilst traveling and then when i was stopped the gauge shot right up again !!!!!!!!!!!!

If you had asked about 6 months ago i had a rad and it was one with oil cooling pipes and a cap, ended up weighing it in for scrap as nobody wanted it and my car is manual so no good to me, try the banger boys as they don't use the rads when racing.
